Cockadoodledo you want to help out Abz and Vicky?

Here at Merryn Magazine, one of our favourite bands of the 1990s/2000s is Five so imagine how excited we were to hear that Abz has a new single out, but it’s a single with a difference. In 2013, Abz and his girlfriend Vicky Fallon left London’s city life behind them and moved to Wales where they bought a smallholding, with the view to starting a farm. A three part documentary series on BBC2 called Country Strife: Abz on the Farm followed their adventures, and it was so successful that BBC2 went on to commission a Christmas special called Country Strife: Abz on the Christmas Farm. You can still watch both programmes on BBC iPlayer:

Now to raise funds for the farm, Abz has released a new song that has been stuck in our heads since we first heard it on New Year’s Eve. What a fabulous way to end 2015, we thought! It’s called Cockadoodledoo and was written by both Abz and Vicky, who is an amazingly talented singer herself (we love her reworked version of Bruno Mars’ Just The Way You Are, as well her version of Adele’s Someone Like You). Abz says “I’d describe Cockadoodledoo as a cross between soulja boy ‘crank that’ and ‘old mcdonald had a farm.’ All proceeds will go towards running and expanding our farm, starting with topsoil, gardening tools and some corn for me chickens.” A worthy cause!

The video is hilarious, with Abz and Vicky larking about on the farm. We love Vicky’s gorgeous dress and wellies combo, perfectly teamed with a red and white apron. The sight of Abz in an inflatable chicken suit is one we will never tire of watching. The video just has to be seen!

The single was released on Monday 4th January and you can buy it from iTunes here.

We wish them all the very best, we’d love to see it race straight to number in the UK singles chart 🙂
